Learning Objectives: Contrast agents for ultrasound imaging are a growing field with many companies developing agents. This lecture introduces concepts associated with the use of these agents, their composition, the physics of their imaging, and current and future uses. Tissue harmonic imaging is also proving useful in many areas. Mechanisms for image improvement will be discussed, including effects of nonlinear propagation, beam forming and artifact reduction.
